Dr. Kevin Maxwell takes a bizarre turn!

…defends principal accused of harassing staff. Maxwell thinks the racist behavior is ok!

Dr. Kevin Maxwell seemed like a good fit in the very beginning but has proved himself to be something else. He is clearly being used by Mr. Rushern Baker regime and others for selfish motives and improper influence within PGCPS District.  

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — The Prince George’s County school board will go to court to defend a high school principal against allegations that she bullied and belittled her teachers and staff.

Former Largo High School employees have alleged Principal Angelique Simpson-Marcus routinely made inappropriate comments to teachers and staff.

The allegations have resulted in multiple lawsuits. Last month a jury awarded former English teacher, Jon Everhart, $350,000 after he filed a discrimination lawsuit accusing Simpson-Marcus of telling other staff not to associate with him because he is white.

Former employees filed a joint lawsuit in 2010. Among the allegations was that Simpson-Marcus would call secretaries by names including “hood rat” and “chicken head.” She is also accused of discriminating against employees based on race.

OPINION

Remember when Mr. Baker appoints someone he controls the puppet strings. Dr. Maxwell is just a “yes man”! It’s all about lining his pockets. We must say no to this unethical practice and demand proper changes from our leaders. Many thanks to those leaders who have stood up to this bullying and relentless harassment like Mr. Bob Ross and Council Woman Mary A. Lehman. We appreciate them for standing up for what is right.  Mr. Eubanks is late with the Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education meetings each week. Something is clearly wrong with him. He seems clueless for being in charge of PGCPS BOE.

Dr. Maxwell, Prince George’s County gets a bad rap all the time because of high level corruption, nepotism and professional misconduct involving many of their leaders and the bribing of local judges in Circuit Court system. By covering up this problem,  you are only adding fuel to the fire.  Make it right or don’t be surprised you are out of a job yourself in the near future. We deserve nothing but the very best in the County. Otherwise, start looking for another job together with anyone else involved in this cover up!

Prince George’s County belongs to all of us. The equal right to land and natural resources is a fundamental human right.

FORMER STAFFERS

Several staff members taught there for several years. Many of them witnessed reverse discrimination and ethnic cleansing in PGCPS system first hand. Not to imply that all African Americans in PGCPS are racist. There were many decent and competent teachers and administrators of all races, but the discrimination many of us witnessed was against the whites, immigrants and others by a few African American administrators many of them still running the show like Simpson Marcus of Largo High school

The real question is why the board has not fired Simpson Marcus for the racist comments and actions? Time for a new principal at Largo.

Black racism is the biggest untold story in the US today.” Yes, definitely, black racism is a huge problem.

For Dr. Kevin Maxwell to cover up the issues is purely wrong and criminal.

“Everhart said Simpson Marcus told students she would change their grades to ensure that every student passed his class. Also, many of the teachers said, Simpson-Marcus said that “the only reason a white teacher would teach in P.G. is that they can’t get a job somewhere else.

A light-skinned science teacher in Prince George’s County says he didn’t get promoted because his supervisor prefers dark-skinned teachers. An African immigrant in the information technology department says he has been mocked by African Americans.

Bravo, PG County. You officially suck.

Racism is wrong.

Racism is wrong because everyone is the same and should be treated equal. Whether you’re African American, Mexican, white etc. If you were to cut yourself you will bleed red everyone does there is no difference everyone is the same. Same as if you’re rich or poor you will still die and will be buried in the ground and Covered in dirt. Just because people are of different skin color that does not make them different from another human being. Even if scientific distinctions between races could be made, the idea of a “pure” race is fiction. The New Encyclopedia Britannica observes: “There are no pure races; all racial groups currently existing are thoroughly mixed.” Whatever the case, the Bible teaches that God “made out of one man every nation of men.” (Acts 17:26) Regardless of skin color, hair texture, or facial features, there is really just one race—the human race. All humans are related through our forefather Adam.

As stated before in the blogs, whenever you have a significant number of staff and teachers saying the same thing about Principal Angelique Simpson-Marcus and others in the system – there’s something to it. We don’t know what, of course – but you just don’t get that many people independently agreeing on a person’s behavior without that person having done something to merit it. Why her and others mentioned in our blogs? Mostly because these people have everything to lose and nothing to gain by accusing the principal or an administrator of bullying – why would they do it unless there was some truth to it.

Here are three reasons why discrimination is wrong:

  1.  The person who is being discriminated against is not being given a chance to proof him/herself but instead the person or persons are stuck with “What if…..” which makes that person feel like he/she is not an equal or part of the American Society.
  2. Discrimination does nothing but cause more bitterness and hatred in society than what we already have.
  3. The Declaration of Independence states “All men (women) are created equal” and that “Every person has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.”

However, the following does not mean anything to some people in the American society because the U.S. Constitution has become a sad joke but….

4.  The U.S. Constitution states “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

The chief financial officer for the Prince George’s County school system and his wife, who works for the school district as an internal auditor, resigned Monday, just days after school officials learned that Maryland state investigators had found them responsible for insurance fraud.

Board of Education Chairman Segun Eubanks and schools chief Kevin M. Maxwell said in a joint statement that the resignations of Colby R. White and his wife, Keisha, were accepted and are effective immediately.

Colby and Keisha White did not respond to requests for comment.

Both had been placed on administrative leave with pay Friday after Maxwell learned that the Maryland Insurance Administration ordered them to pay $6,000 for filing a false insurance claim for a lost wedding ring.

According to an order filed by the state insurance administration in August, White filed two claims for his wife’s 1.5-carat ring with two different insurance companies within a five-month span.

Insurance investigators for Erie Insurance Exchange found that White’s claim last September for a lost ring was the second one he had filed. Traveler’s Indemnity Insurance paid White $16,313 to settle a claim he filed in April 2013. >>> Read more Washington Post

OPINION

Once again, What surprises most of us is that, now Monica Goldson, the queen of questionable activities, ethnics, and back door deals who also lacks the skills to do anything successful in the system, will be CFO and COO all rolled into one. One of the issues we brought to the attention of the current regime when they took over the school system was the role of Ms. Monica Goldson. Her role in safe guarding the treasury at Prince George’s county is very suspect. If that’s not the fox guarding the hen house. We don’t know what it is.

Above all, Dr. Maxwell’s response is bizarre to this whole saga and that one of Dr. Simposon Marcus EDd. He is well aware that one of his school principal was found guilty of discrimination. But because she is politically connected to corrupt Dr.Charlene Dukes who happens to be Maryland state Board of Education President and also the President of Prince George’s county community college this behavior is supposed to be ok? They have the right to appeal the decision, but he should realize that there are multiple suites alleging the same thing against the same principal. Certainly if there was evidence that his team didn’t present during the Everhart case why settle a subsequent case?

This is becoming more bizarre everyday and every night! It is pretty apparent that the right thing to do would have been to conduct your own proper investigation prior to going to court. Many of us have 1st hand experience that PGCPS, PG Co. do not really investigate reverse discrimination cases. EEOC complaints are just glanced at and the victims fired without warning. Up until now, no really high publicized discrimination case against PGCPS has come to the forefront but We can tell you these kinds of cases have been accumulating for very many years now. The train has just left the station. Let us see what happens in the next one month as a result of this cover up!

Way to go Mr. Rushern Baker! It just gets better with you at the helm. Maxwell has brought a whole new element of banditry with him and we pray they will all be exposed one day by others.

Many of us are wondering if there is a cloud over Dr. Kevin Maxwell and his Administration! Above all, We better watch his Deputy too a politically connected friend through her husband to Mr. Rushern Baker! CFO Colby White and his wife files a claim about a stupid diamond ring. To think they were so dishonest and liars to have filed that “same” claim earlier. What people will do for money? How can these people be brought to PGCPS and expect Students to be honest.

Now look at how quickly both of them were placed on Administrative Leave for fraud with “pay”. Is that looking out for the public? What happened to Simpson-Marcus? The last time we checked She was still walking around Largo High while Staff, Students, Parents, and the Community are looking at how well protected and bold she has become. Given, the fact that she has declined to step down, or even sought to transfer to another school District together with ASASP President Mr. Dwayne Jones, tells me she is a failure as an educator and as a leader, and that she cares far more for herself and her career than for the children in her charge. Monica Goldson, Simpson-Marcus and others involved in this questionable activity are not the type of leaders we would want to see influencing our children in the critical high school years.

It’s amazing how much money these two made. Yet, the Teachers who make the Schools look good barely get a decent salary or even enough material for the classrooms. You will be surprised how many PGCPS Teachers have to work a second job or other jobs just to make ends meet.

The president of the Prince George’s County branch of the NAACP is demanding that a high school principal who has been accused of harassing and bullying former employees resign or be terminated.

Bob Ross said he is joining county council member Mary A. Lehman (D-Laurel) in calling for Largo High School principal Angelique Simpson-Marcus to be removed as head of the 1,100-student school.

In the past month, one discrimination case involving Simpson-Marcus’s alleged ill treatment toward employees went to trial and resulted in a $350,000 jury award. The school board recently reached an undisclosed out-of-court settlement in a second discrimination case.

“It’s time for her to go,” Ross said. “For the good of the system, it would be better for her to resign. . . . You can’t have a workplace where you are discriminating [against] employees, whether black or white.”

Jon Everhart, who won the $350,000 award, alleged that Simpson-Marcus, who was working as a physical education teacher at the Largo school in 2003, told students that “the only reason a white man teaches in P.G. County is that they can’t get a job elsewhere.” He filed a discrimination claim against Simpson-Marcus to the teachers’ union. He said she then targeted him, telling him if she ever became principal, he would be the first person she would fire. >>> Read more Washington Post

OPINION

According to a former Human Resources officer for Prince George’s County Public Schools, “Maxwell’s practice of promoting and hiring people based upon nepotism, professional misconduct and cronyism is really working out”. He said recently in the blogs. “If you are a woman or a man you better be married or related to a politician ie Monique Davis, the head of Special education and Shauna Garlington Battle, Esq the head of legal issues.” Otherwise Maxwell has no use for you as a woman or man it appears.

The former Human resources officer further stated, “I was one of the people in HR whose positions were eliminated. My wife and I are not related to a politician so I was shown the door. Robert Gaskin his wife and granddaughter are all in Human Resources – just like Mr. & Mrs. White….until actual crimes are committed the Washington Post pays no attention. It took a $350,000 judgment and blatant racism to wake the Washington Post up.” He concluded.

When the chief financial officer is found by the state to have committed insurance FRAUD, you do not put him on pay leave, you fire him on the spot and then let him go through the due process if he likes it. When his wife, Keisha, is also found guilty of insurance FRAUD, you fire her too right on the spot to set an example and let her go through the same due process like everybody else. If they so wish! The wife to the Chief Financial Officer reports to Mr. Eubanks who is Brother in Law to Rushern Baker and is the Board chair. The Chief Financial Officer reports to Dr. Kevin Maxwell who in turn reports to Mr. Rushern Baker and Mr. Eubanks. Clearly, there is something wrong with that picture!

There is no doubt that, Maxwell and all his cronies are having a banner week. The mishandling of all the cases in Federal, State courts involving previous employees and the millions spent defending them after the Thatcher Law firm bribed the attorneys is not fair to the rule of law in Maryland and the United States. There is no question the jury heard more than one perception when the trial was going on in the case involving Mr. Jon Everhart. Didn’t Dr. Kevin Maxwell pick Dr. White as chief financial officer after he had just paid the fine for his fraud but now sits home on full pay with his co fraud wife? Isn’t this a repeat of what Dr. William Hite Jr did when he hired and promoted Ms. Synthia Shillings after she beat up a Maryland State trooper?

Many of us are astonished by Prince George’s County by praising Angelique Simpson-Marcus . What do they mean his work performance is good…sounds like the same logic that’s keeping Simpson Marcus at the helm of Largo High School. “An effective leader” is what the PGCPS spokesperson used to describe her…also a person found in a Federal Court to discriminate, harass, retaliate, and bully her staff (at least one so far, the other case got settled on Tuesday of this week under seal), more cases to come against her and other administrators in the county!

Where are you Mr. Baker when the real moral and ethical issues rear their ugly head? Nowhere to be found.

Where are you Mr. Mel Franklin, chair of the county council, former Human Relations Commissioner? Nowhere to be found.

Where are you Dr. Maxwell, the multicultural person who used to be the principal at Northwestern High school, you with the PhD in educational policy? So far nowhere to be found on these very important issues for all the residents and staff of PGCPS District.

Thank goodness for the people in Prince Georges County like Mr. Bob Ross and Council member Mary A. Lehman (D-Laurel). Only when people in the majority black community call for an end to cronyism, corruption, Nepotism, professional misconduct, incompetence and discrimination will the reputation of the Prince George’s County improve.

According to the opinions received in the blogs, these reports are now exposing the back door deals all the way to County Council President, not new at all and a legendary practice in Prince George’s County. Maxwell backed away from Jack Johnson when Johnson hit the skids, then became the puppet for Baker. Who Maxwell brought with him to his newly appointed position were BDDs and they removed, transferred or dismissed many competent, successful, personnel to put his puppets in place whether they were skilled or not — just pay back. Politics and education have never mixed and this mess is the result. Nothing about any of it speaks to educating students. Ones who were about educating students had their lives put into upheaval, chaos and commotion, sadness. Like so many dedicated teachers, they just readjusted and moved on to do the noble jobs they were put on earth to do. For them it is not about the money but, the success of every child they are humbled to teach or with whom to work. All of it has been the talk of the Sasscer building since it began. This stinks, stinks to the high heavens but, the good news is it has been exposed, the emperor has no clothes. For anyone who thought that Maxwell accepted this position to dedicate his life to students is badly mistaken, it is all about the million dollar contract (with added perks) that he received. Anyone who has spent anytime with him knows he is shallow and knows little about instruction or curriculum. Educate yourselves about PG, Google names, places and you will find the pieces of the puzzle falling into place. All the participants have a history, hence the Good Ole Boy system still lives.

There is no turning back. We all have a responsibility to make this world a better place. Unless we react, anyone else under their care could be a victim next.  There is no doubt in our minds this is corruption at best.

Time to hold our leaders to account for doing the right thing. Mr. White, his wife, Simpson Marcus, Monica Goldson, Thatcher Law Firm, James Fisher, Shani Whisonant in the legal department, ASASP Union President Dwayne Jones need to be fired immediately!!! What are we waiting for, picket signs in front of Laurel, Largo High Schools and the Sasscer Building? It’s time!

The top budget official for Maryland’s second-largest school system was placed on administrative leave with pay Friday after school officials learned of an order from the Maryland Insurance Administration finding that he committed insurance fraud.

Colby R. White, the chief financial officer of the Prince George’s County Public School System, and his wife, Keisha, who works for the school district as an internal auditor, were ordered in August to pay $3,000 each for filing a fraudulent insurance claim for a wedding ring.

Max Pugh, a spokesman for the school system, said both employees were placed on administrative leave with pay, pending an internal investigation by the school district.

Chief Operating Officer Monica Goldson was named to temporarily assume White’s responsibilities.

Buying a diamond ring is always a costly expense.

Claiming to lose it — twice — came at an even steeper price for Colby White, chief financial officer for Prince George’s County public schools.

The Maryland Insurance Administration has ruled White and his wife, Keisha, who works as an internal auditor for the school system, committed insurance fraud by filing a claim for a lost diamond ring that another insurer had already paid $16,313 to replace months earlier.

The agency said the couple “knowingly violated” Maryland insurance law in filing two claims for the same loss. They were ordered to pay $6,000 in civil fines, according to an Aug. 13 order released last week and obtained by The Baltimore Sun. The couple has paid the fine and did not appeal the order.

School officials were unaware of the insurance agency’s ruling until informed by The Sun. But school board chairman Segun Eubanks and a spokesman for schools chief executive Kevin Maxwell said they are investigating the matter.

“This is really the first time we’ve heard of this,” said spokesman Max Pugh. “For now, it’s a personnel matter. We may have some developments next week.”

White and his wife did not return calls left on their work and home voice mails.

Colby White was appointed in June by Maxwell to manage a school system with a $1.8 billion budget. Pugh did not know if White, a longtime schools employee, disclosed the insurance agency’s investigation prior to being promoted from acting budget director.

Prince George’s County leaders are calling for a high school principal to be fired over accusations of bullying and mistreatment of her staff.

Dr. Angelique Simpson-Marcus became Largo High School’s principal in 2007. Three years later a group of employees filed complaints of harassment and bullying against her.

“A counselor at Largo High School came to our office complaining about harassment, hostile work environment,” said Bob Ross of Prince George’s County NAACP.

The NAACP received several complaints. Then a white male teacher filed a case alleging reverse discrimination and won in federal court in August.

Rushern Baker – Appears to be driving corruption to new heights

Prince George’s County executive Rushern L. Baker III made a surprise visit to the county’s Democratic Central Committee Tuesday night to urge members to endorse a ballot initiative that would extend the number of terms the county executive and members of the County Council can remain in office.

Question “J” on the November ballot will ask county voters to decide whether to give the executive and legislators the opportunity to serve three terms instead of the current two-term limit.

Voters in the past have overwhelmingly opposed changing or repealing term limits, which were instituted by referendum in Prince George’s in 1992. But Baker said he believes times have changed, residents are more satisfied with their leaders, and the county would benefit from politicians being allowed to run for a third term,

“I would like you to endorse the ballot question,” Baker said told the committee’s 24 elected members. “You have more reach than I do.”

Fielding questions from committee members, Baker pushed hard against their fears that powerful incumbents with deep coffers would be locked into elected office unchallenged.

“You don’t want them there? Kick their asses out,” he said. “What this boils down to is whether you believe voters are mature enough to get rid of someone they are tired of.”

The central committee — which produces a sample ballot laying out the party’s positions and candidates — was not convinced. A Prince George’s County Council member is calling on Schools Chief Kevin M. Maxwell to fire a high school principal at the center of two discrimination cases that were recently settled.

Council member Mary A. Lehman (D-Laurel) said she is “appalled by the school system’s defense of the pattern of blatantly racist behavior by the principal of Largo High School.”

Lehman said in a letter to Maxwell and Deputy Superintendent Monique Davis that the principal, Angelique Simpson-Marcus, should be removed from her job for the way she has treated former employees. The letter was e-mailed Thursday.

Max Pugh, a spokesman for the school system, said he could not confirm that Maxwell and Davis had received the letter but said, “We welcome the dialogue with legislators and our stakeholders, and we’ll prepare appropriate responses.”

Regardless of if the allegations of the current administration who appear more keen to cover up rather than fix the issues. The principal is still at the school despite one court finding them true and several other suits pending. A true educator is not in it for the fame or glory or money (as there are none of those things in education. You can take it to the bank. They are in it to benefit the children and to help guide them into adulthood, especially at the high school level.

If Simpson-Marcus was teaching elementary school, or perhaps even middle school where kids are not typically aware of the bigger things in the world, then there may be some way to stay on the job despite allegations, despite the lawsuit she lost. But as a high school principal, she knows her students know about the cases. Twenty three cases were originally filed. Some of them touches on the union’s lack of representation. Others touches on ASASP Union and the role it has been manipulated to protect bad principals. In any case, Simpson Marcus has become a distraction to her students and to her supposed duty as an educator to help them learn and grow. Then goes Principal Dwayne Jones of Laurel High schools (President of ASASP) involved in the same thing. Given that, the fact that Simpson Marcus and Dwayne Jones have declined to step down, or even sought to transfer to another school, tells us that they are failure as educators and as a leaders, and that they care far more for themselves and their career than for the children in their charge. And that isn’t the type of leaders we would want influencing our children in the critical high school years.

Prince George’s County Government is plagued with reverse or minority (non-black) discrimination. There is also black on black racism as experienced by Tracy Allison, Dr. Ruth Johnson and others. Many of us have had first-hand experience with discrimination at PGCPS and had to file EEOC complaints with the Prince George’s County Government. All in all, there is no one looking out for the other minorities. Just look at what they have done recently to Filipinos, Africans, Hispanics and other minorities.

Elevation of Dr. Kevin Maxwell as we know it (new Super) was to try and clean house. We don’t know happened. But one thing for sure is that, Legal department and Human Resources are now an extension of Thatcher Law Firm and Monica Goldson. Mr. James Fisher a former employee of Thatcher Law firm and Shani K. Whisonant involved in a number of questionable activities leave a lot to be desired.  

By the way, PGCPS teachers and support staff do not have a union. They have a worthless association (PGCEA) and ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 run by Maryland State Educator Association (MSEA) attorney Mr. Damon Felton as his personal kingdoms. These two plus ASASP union are in bed with the PGCPS Admin and Board of Education which is an Association rather than a Board. It has now become an extension of Mr. Rushern Baker lately. What a shame!

Cell Phone Towers Continue To Cause Concerns.

While plans to place cell phone towers continue to move forward, parents and activists say they think the company building the towers needs to file for a special exception because it will make more than four maintenance visits a year.

“It’s simple math,” said Thea Scarato, a Greenbelt resident and parent of two children in PGCPS. “There are going to be more than four visits. It should need a special exception.”

In a previous report by The Sentinel, county planning department officials said the cell phone tower applications do not need a special exception because the towers will only be 151 feet high—lower than the county’s zoning ordinance requirement limitation of 199 feet. However, according to Scarato, cell phone tower applications should go through a process to get a special exception because there will be at least four maintenance site visits per year, according to the leasing agreement between Prince George’s County Public Schools and Milestone Communications.

“Lessee agrees that it will inspect the Leased Premises and the Base Station no less frequently than once every three months,” according to a copy of the leasing agreement obtained by The Sentinel.

According to the section 27-445.04 of the county’s zoning ordinance states: “The building or enclosure shall be unmanned, with infrequent (4 or fewer per year) visits by maintenance personnel and with access and parking for no more than 1 vehicle.”

“In Montgomery County, cell towers go through the special exception process when criteria is met,” Scarato said. “So why is Prince Georges County failing to follow its own code that dictates the same process?” >>> Read more Prince George’s County Sentinel.

Case-Settled

A discrimination lawsuit that pitted a former Maryland school secretary against her principal — and included allegations that the head of Largo High School bullied her staff — was settled Tuesday just as it was about to go to trial in federal court.

Max Pugh, a spokesman for the school system, said Tuesday that the school board and Tracy Allison, who worked at Largo High School until 2010, “have resolved the matter.”

U.S. District Court Judge Peter J. Messitte said both parties contacted his office to say that the case was settled prior to trial, which had been scheduled to begin in Greenbelt this week. There will be no further legal action in the case, Messitte said.

Pugh and Messitte declined to comment on the settlement amount. Allison and her attorney, Neil Lebowitz, did not respond to phone calls seeking comment.

Allison was one of several former employees who accused Largo High School Principal Angelique Simpson-Marcus of belittling and berating staff members, deriding teachers and secretaries, and making inappropriate comments about white teachers. Prince George’s County school board chairman Segun Eubanks (Brother in law to Rushern Baker) seen here pondering at MABE workshop with a cup to his mouth. Segun has demonstrated poor leadership skills and continuation of the status quo after he chose to ignore Union grievances and cases filed with the courts by victims. Negotiating settlements quickly with grieved employees victimized by the racist Prince George’s County system is the way to go. Additionally, issues raised needs to be addressed to avoid a repeat of the same.  Principals and other administrators who have caused the county to incur a huge legal expense needs to be reassigned or fired.
